Who we are and what we do

The Capital Philharmonic Orchestra was set up to provide focused training in orchestral technique in preparation for work with professional orchestras. Download here a recent copy of the MAS Newsletter describing our work and organisation.

The Capital Philharmonic Orchestra rehearses and performs core repertoire, thus preparing you for that important audition, trial or extra work.

Players receive sectional coaching from leading orchestral performers who are working in orchestras every day.

The requirements and standards demanded in professional orchestras compared to amateur or college orchestras often comes as a great shock to young players. This is especially true with regard to intonation, tone quality, balance within the section, group and orchestra, interpretation of articulation, dynamics, ensemble playing and stylistic playing. What is more, you have to deliver this, and are being judged, from the very first note you play, not just in the performance!

The Capital Philharmonic Orchestra aims to bridge this gap and provide players with the experience and knowledge that will make this step easier. By sending out parts, so players can have the notes prepared in advance, we aim to have an orchestra that can really work on the ensemble and stylistic elements of orchestral playing.

Our aim is to teach what you really need to know…
