First concert - Saturday 10 March 2007

Michael Whight and Charlotte Self with some of the other members of the orchestra after performing the Mozart Clarinet Concerto

Our first concert took place at St Alfege Church in Greenwich on 10 March. Many thanks to the performers, coaches and management for such a successful inauguration. Click here to see some pictures of the rehearsal and conclusion of the performance.

Feedback was extremely positive, with the programme of Mozart and Dvorak being very popular with both orchestra and audience. Michael Whight reprised his wonderful performance of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto - he recorded his interpretation with the RPO last year - and then came on in the second half to conduct Dvorak's 9th Symphony.

After a full afternoon's rehearsal and sectional sessions on the previous day, the orchestra could be well satisfied with their performance.

A selection of comments from the performers follows:

  • I learnt so much from the string sectional and it was fantastic to work with such amazing musicians.
  • It was so useful to have specific tips on how to play certain sections...
  • ...such a great programme and fantastic soloist!
  • ...so useful, entering the profession, to cover standard repertoire.
  • ...learnt so much about how to play in an orchestra and how to play within my section.
  • The tips in the sectional were invaluable and inspiring. Thank you!
  • ...great orchestra to play with, good repertoire, very enjoyable.
  • I think there is a real need for this kind of orchestra to prepare students for the profession.
  • Love the Dvorak!
